Set scene: New York City. Coldest Valentine’s day in history. -30ºC feeling temperature. CNN recommends citizens to remain inside.
After hearing these conditions, we decided to take on the challenge and step outside in search of some new great memories.
My initial outfit choice was certainly not the most convenient taking into account the little ice age going on, so I had no other option but to become a hybrid between a layered onion and a pink sheep. Bear in mind, under this lifesaving coat, there was a mix of undershirts, layers of cashmere sweaters and a scarf that I bravely took out when taking these pictures (I always say, fashion first!).
‘My pink sheep, acting like a monkey, and cuddly like a koala’ was the way Tom decided to call me for the day.
While I don’t completely disagree, I would have probably added ‘shivering like a cold little puppy’. My spanish self was clearly not used to the extreme conditions and at a certain point I found it even difficult to blink.
Unfashionable details aside, our day included a cheesy but romantic visit to Times Square, a ‘non-breakfast’ at Tiffany’s (we forgot our croissants…), a Cinderella moment with the most enchanting carriages at Central Park, and the acquaintance of a very lovely upper-east sider: Emma, the fancy squirrel.
At the end of it all, and as ironic as it may sound, we could not have wished for a warmer Valentine’s day.
